Many characters created for comic book adaptations later find their way into the world of comics. Jimmy Olsen and Harley Quinn are perhaps the two most prominent examples. Now, a character originally created for the MCU has made an unexpected appearance as an ally of the dimension-hopping Spider-Gwen.
Written by Stephanie Phillips, with art by Federica Mancin, Spider-Gwen: The Ghost Spider #1 finds Ghost-Spider in the middle of moving. For unexplained reasons, she had to move away from her home universe and into the reality of Earth-616. It is soon revealed that her movements are being watched by the Time Variance Authority (TVA). Indeed, Spider-Gwen’s case is being overseen by a familiar figure from Season 2 of Loki.
O.B. is Gwen Stacy’s TVA Case Worker in Spider-Gwen
Officially known as Ouroboros, O.B. was introduced in Loki Season 2 as the engineer who wrote the TVA Guidebook. Played by Ke Huy Quan, he quickly became a fan favorite character. He also played a major role in helping Loki to save the Multiverse.
This version of O.B. seems similar to the one from the show. He is a kind-hearted yet socially awkward man, who is clearly better with machines than people. This is best showcased when he attempts to comfort an upset Gwen by petting her on the head, like a dog.
The big mystery at the heart of Spider-Gwen: The Ghost Spider #1 is why she moved to another Earth. It is clear that she is on a mission for the TVA, as O.B. explains why it is necessary for the heroes of this Earth not to know Gwen is there. The exact nature of this mission, however, remains unknown. Still, with O.B. as her guide, Spider-Gwen seems to be in good hands.
Spider-Gwen: The Ghost Spider #1 is now available at comic shops everywhere.
