Godzilla has faced many challenges in his 70 years of existence. He has crossed into many universes, doing battle with the superheroes of both Marvel Comics and DC Comics. However, Toho and IDW Publishing are partnering to create a new universe centered around the King of the Monsters.
This Kai-Sei Era will establish a new status quo and yield the first monthly Godzilla comic in a decade. Indeed, this initiative will start with three new monthly comics and a new design for the legendary kaiju. The new design, by artist Nikola Čižmešija, may be viewed below.

The Kai-Sei Era will officially begin with a Free Comic Book Day special; Godzilla: The New Heroes. Scheduled for release on May 3, this 10-page preview will offer the first fully-illustrated look at the three books establishing the new setting. These series each represent a unique genre and a new way of looking at the King of the Monsters.
Godzilla #1 is a classic kaiju tale with one twist
The first new series, Godzilla, is planned to be released in July 2025. Written by Tim Seeley, with art by Nikola Čižmešija, it is the most traditional of the three series starting up the Kai-Sei Era. It is set in the modern day, but a different timeline than the classic Godzilla movies or the Monsterverse. It will also put a new spin on the classic concept of G-Force, the international organization charged with defending Earth from giant monsters.

In the new timeline, a mysterious energy source called Kai-Sei awakens Godzilla and other nasty beasts in 1954. As the series opens, G-Force has discovered a boy who somehow has the power to command Godzilla. This may give them the edge they need to destroy all the other monsters. However, it is also possible the boy may bring about the final doom of humanity.
Godzilla: Escape the Deadzone is post-apocalyptic

The second series, Godzilla: Escape the Deadzone, is set in the not-too-distant future of this universe. It will be written by Eisner nominees Ethan Parker and Griffin Sheridan and feature art by Pablo Tunica. The series will also be notable for introducing the first half-human/half-kaiju hybrid in the franchise’s history.

Reading like a combination of Fallout and X-Men, this series will explore the titular Deadzone. The search for answers will reveal the secrets of the new Godzilla Universe. These secrets will have ramifications across the entire Kai-Sei Era.
Starship Godzilla is a mecha-fueled sci-fi epic

The third and final series, Starship Godzilla, may be the most revolutionary. It is set in outer space and the far-distant future of the Kai-Sei Era. It will be written by In Utero author Chris Gooch, with art by Oliver Ono. Furthermore, this series is scheduled to launch in October 2025.

Earlier stories set in the Toho canon have featured alien creatures apart from the various monsters threatening the Earth. Intelligent space-faring races, both friendly and hostile, have made contact with Earth. However, none of these stories found people from Earth visiting alien worlds in turn. Starship Godzilla will take this giant leap forward with a crew of misfits using Mechagodzilla to explore the stars.
The artwork and concept evoke the memory of classic Mecha manga like Macross. However, these explorers are significantly less ethical than the Federation from Star Trek. Rather, they are adventurers seeing risky missions with great rewards. Despite this, the crew of Starship Godzilla will accidentally uncover a secret that could threaten all sentient life everywhere.
