Beauty and the beast… though if anyone else calls Wonder Woman a beast, Lobo‘ll rip their lungs out. In celebration of both Wonder Woman Day this past weekend and Halloween upcoming, McFarlane Toys rolled out two (mostly) new takes on the Amazon princess and the last Czarnian. Both characters remain steadily popular with fans, yet haven’t necessarily had as many figures in the DC Multiverse line as one might think.
Glamor and Grimdark
Wonder Woman is considered one of DC’s “big three,” alongside Superman and Batman, and McFarlane has made several variations of her, yet never, until now, a truly classic comic-styled version. This one aims to please, with the star undies and classic WW logo, along with a sword and shield.
Lobo saw release once before, and the upcoming version appears to use the same body but with two all-new heads. He’s a badass space biker, though, and where would he be without his bike? McFarlane Toys loves to make Batcycles, so the chance to make a chopper that’s even more metal than Bruce Wayne must have been a gimme. The total package also comes with Lobo’s pet, Dawg, and a Lobo logo stand that can either make the bike “hover,” or just work to keep Lobo upright. Also, he has a triple-necked guitar because again… totally metal.
An Amazon.com exclusive, Lobo begins preorders on October 27. As of this writing, Wonder Woman has no date set yet. McFarlane figures tend to become available relatively soon after they’re revealed, though. With new rumors that Jason Momoa might play Lobo in the rebooted DC movies, expect interest in the character to soar again. Though the character was created as an Omega Men villain and often used as a parody of Wolverine, he’s become associated with Superman over the years as one of the few characters on the main roster who’s his equal in battle.
Will that fight happen on the big screen? We don’t know yet, but it looks set to happen on your toy shelf first.
