Josh Brolin Added to Legendary’s Dune Remake

Variety reports that Josh Brolin has joined the already impressive cast of Legendary’s Dune remake. Brolin is playing Gurney Halleck in the upcoming film directed by Denis Villeneuve.

In Frank Herbert’s novel, Gurney Halleck is a vital member of Duke Leto Atreides’ inner circle. Halleck is also the Atreides clan’s warmaster, and develops a special bond with the Duke’s son, Paul (Timothée Chalamet). Halleck is one of several mentor figures who provide Paul with the necessary training to shape him into the leader he’s destined to become. His primary focus is to teach Paul in the art of swordplay and self-defense. However, he displays a fondness for poetry and music as well. Halleck also harbors his own personal vendetta against the Atreides’ sworn enemies, the Harkonnens.

Patrick Stewart made one of his first film appearances as Halleck in David Lynch’s adaptation of Dune in 1984. P.H. Moriarty took over the part for Syfy’s 2000 miniseries, Frank Herbert’s Dune. Moriarty reprised the role for the network’s sequel series, Frank Herbert’s Children of Dune.

Brolin had a big year in 2018. He starred in Avengers: Infinity War, Deadpool 2, and Sicario: Day of the Soldado. He will reprise his now iconic role as Thanos in Avengers: Endgame. Brolin is also expected to don Cable’s cybernetic enhancements once again for an X-Force spinoff. However, the status of that film is unknown after the pending merger between Disney and Fox.
