Quentin Tarantino and Jerrod Carmichael Teaming Up for Django/Zorro Film

Jamie Foxx’s emancipated bounty hunter is coming back to theaters, and he’s inviting a friend along for the ride. Collider brings word that Django Unchained writer and director Quentin Tarantino is looking to bring Dynamite Entertainment’s Django/Zorro crossover comic to the big screen. To write the film, Tarantino has enlisted actor and comedian Jerrod Carmichael.

Tarantino co-created Django/Zorro with writer Matt Wagner and artist Esteve Polls in 2015. The series picks up several years after the events of Tarantino’s film, with Django continuing his new career as a bounty hunter in the western states. Eventually, he meets Diego de la Vega, also known as the legendary Zorro. Django assumes a new role as de la Vega’s “bodyguard,” and soon discovers a new strain of slavery affecting the indigenous population. With this, he and his new partner set out to dish out their own brand of vengeful justice.

Carmichael previously created and headlined his own NBC sitcom, The Carmichael Show. He’s also an executive producer on the Hulu series Ramy, which premiered earlier this year. It’s not clear if Tarantino will co-write on the script with Carmichael or only serve as a consultant. However, he probably won’t direct the movie himself. The filmmaker has repeatedly expressed his intentions to retire after helming 10 movies. Currently, he’s garnering praise for his ninth directorial effort, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. With one film left to go before he calls it quits, he’ll probably choose his final project more carefully.
