The Star Wars saga as we’ve known it will come to a close with The Rise of Skywalker on Friday, December 20. But the real question is, where does the franchise go from here? There a re a few Star Wars series like The Mandalorian on Disney+; with Obi-Wan, and the Rogue One prequel series featuring Diego Luna’s Cassian Andor. But beyond that, things seem a bit murky. However, in a recent interview with Variety, Disney CEO Bob Iger managed to clear a few things up.
For the first takeaway, Iger indicated that Disney and Lucasfilm will move away from trilogies.
“Probably smaller than you think because what we do is, we look to pick a few and see how they gestate,” said Iger. “In some cases, bring them out and see how the audience reacts and then react accordingly. It’s not as many as I think most people think. I think the number is endless, but we’re gonna be careful, the next one is really important.”

Disney has taken more of a cautious approach with Star Wars since The Last Jedi left audiences divided in 2017. Last year’s Solo: A Star Wars Story was also poorly received at the box office.
Regardless, Iger promises there are many more Star Wars stories to come.
“And while this represents the end of, really, nine chapters, which is quite extraordinary, it’s not the end of Star Wars stories, in many respects it’s the beginning of Star Wars stories,” added Iger.
