Filming is underway for The Matrix 4, but director Lana Wachowski is still fleshing out the sequel’s supporting cast. The Wrap reports that Ellen Hollman is the latest new addition to the movie. Not surprisingly, details on her character are being kept under wraps for now.
Hollman appeared in the second and third seasons of Starz’s Spartacus as Saxa. In more recent years, she has shown up in various episodes of TV shows like Into the Badlands, NCIS: New Orleans, and 9-1-1. Hollman also happens to be a trained jiu jitsu martial artist, so she may not require a stunt double when she starts work on The Matrix 4.

Given the way The Matrix Revolutions ended in 2003, fans still don’t know what to expect from the next installment. That film memorably featured the apparent deaths of Keanu Reeves’ Neo and Carrie-Anne Moss’ Trinity. Regardless, both actors are definitely appearing in the new film. They’ll also be joined by a handful of recognizable newcomers, including Neil Patrick Harris, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Jessica Henwick, Jonathan Groff, and Priyanka Chopra. Wachowski has also recruited several ex-Sense8 cast members like Max Riemert, Toby Onwumere, Erendira Ibarra, and Brian J. Smith to fill supporting roles.
Production on The Matrix 4 is pressing on in San Francisco. Just this week, video surfaced (via ABC7) of a rather explosive scene being filmed in the city’s Financial District.
The Matrix 4 will open in theaters on May 21, 2021.
