After being delayed for two years because of the Disney-Fox merger, it looked like The New Mutants was finally going to hit theaters next month. But unfortunately, the fallout from the Coronavirus outbreak has begun to affect major Hollywood tentpoles. And now, 20th Century Studios’ upcoming X-Men offshoot is the latest casualty. Via The Wrap, Disney has confirmed that they’re taking three movies, including The New Mutants, off their release calendar.
The New Mutants has been postponed alongside the live-action Mulan remake (March 27) and the horror film Antlers (April 17). You can read Disney’s official statement regarding their decision below.
“As you know this has been a rapidly evolving situation and I wanted to make you aware that we are postponing the releases of Mulan, The New Mutants, and Antlers out of an abundance of caution,” the statement read. “We truly believe in the moviegoing experience, and we are looking at new potential 2020 release dates to be announced at a later date.”

Disney isn’t the only studio that caved into pressure to delay upcoming movies. Earlier this month, MGM announced that it was pushing No Time to Die’s release from April to November. Universal also announced today that it was postponing its newest Fast and Furious film, F9, until next year. Additionally, Paramount is delaying the opening of A Quiet Place Part II. The virus has also prompted the cancellation or postponement of several high-profile film festivals in the U.S., including Tribeca.
Disney still hasn’t announced a new release date for The New Mutants.
