Harry Lennix Filmed New Justice League Scenes as Martian Manhunter

Not long after Harry Lennix made his DCEU debut as General Swanwick in Man of Steel, fans began speculating over whether his character was actually Martian Manhunter in disguise. Rumors about Swanwick’s true nature have continued to swirl over the last several years. And when it was announced that Zack Snyder’s Justice League was finally on the way, viewers couldn’t help but wonder if we’d see J’onn J’onzz in all his shapeshifting Martian glory. Now, Lennix himself has made it official. During a recent interview with Collider, he confirmed that he will appear as Martian Manhunter in the Snyder Cut. Plus, he also shot new scenes for the film.

Lennix explained that he originally thought his role in Man of Steel was a “one and done” appearance. That obviously changed when he was brought back for Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice in 2016. But even then, he wasn’t given any hints about his character’s real identity. Lennix mused that the filmmakers were going to bring him into the loop before he started work on Justice League. Unfortunately, his scenes were cut after Snyder left the film.

“I never saw the script,” said Lennix. “I didn’t get a chance to read the script, because… they were still being developed, and they keep all of that under lock and key.”

In the end, J’onn J’onzz was left out of Justice League’s theatrical cut. But in the years since its release, Snyder continued to share storyboards that featured Martian Manhunter on social media. And last October, Lennix finally got to bring some of those scenes to life while filming in front of a green screen.

“It’s going to be great to be up there with Batman and Superman and my pals,” added Lennix. “Yeah, I’m once again like a kid at a candy store.”

Zack Snyder’s Justice League is expected to premiere on HBO Max in March.
