Sony Debunks Tyrese Gibson’s Comments About Morbius’ Delay and MCU Connections

Earlier this week, Tyrese Gibson caused quite a stir about his upcoming film, Morbius. While speaking with ComicBook, Gibson claimed that Morbius was pushed back again to October 2022. He also indicated that Morbius would be a part of the MCU. However, that’s not what Sony has to say about the film.

Via Gamespot, Sony reiterated that Morbius will still hit theaters on January 28, 2022. The studio also indicated that Morbius is a part of Sony Pictures’ Universe of Marvel characters, not the MCU.

Regardless, the previous Morbius trailers have played up the potential MCU connections. Michael Keaton is seemingly reprising his role as Adrian Toomes/Vulture from Spider-Man: Homecoming. And the word “murderer” was painted over an image of Spider-Man on a wall. That lines up  with Peter Parker’s status after Spider-Man: Far From Home.

Jared Leto will headline Morbius as Dr. Michael Morbius, a man stricken with a deadly disease. Unfortunately for Morbius, his cure transforms him into a “living vampire,” complete with a thirst for human blood.

Gibson will portray Simon Stroud, an FBI agent who is hunting down Morbius. Al Madrigal will also co-star as FBI agent Alberto Rodriguez. Additionally, Adria Arjona will play Morbius’ fiancée, Martine Bancroft, alongside Matt Smith as Loxias Crown.
