Steven Caple Jr.’s Transformers Movie is Called Transformers: Rise of the Beasts

The next Transformers movie finally has an official title, and it confirms what a number of fans have suspected for months. During a virtual event held earlier today (via io9), director Steven Caple Jr. announced that the new film in Paramount’s Transformers franchise will be called Transformers: Rise of the Beasts. As the name implies, the film will utilize elements from Hasbro’s Beast Wars line.

Caple shared the news alongside the film’s two stars, Anthony Ramos and Dominique Fishback. Longtime Transformers producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura also popped in to share even more details about Rise of the Beast’s premise. The film primarily takes place in 1994 in Brooklyn, with a few action scenes happening in Peru as well. Fans can expect appearances by several Beast Wars staples, including Predacons, Maximals, and Terrorcons. And of course, we can also look forward to the return of Optimus Prime and Bumblebee. But instead of bringing back Megatron as the main villain, the characters will face off against Terrorcon leader Scourge. The film will also feature new Autobots like Mirage, Arcee, and Nightbird, as well as familiar Beast Wars robots like Airazor, Rhinox, and Optimus Primal.

Ramos is headlining the film as Noah, a tech-savvy ex-soldier who also acts as a father figure to his younger brother. Meanwhile, Fishback is playing Elena, an artifact researcher for a museum. Former Dexter actress Lauren Velez previously confirmed that she also has a role in the film as Noah’s mom.

Rise of the Beasts will be the first new Transformers movie to hit theaters since Paramount released Bumblebee in 2018. That film took place in 1987 and only shared a loose continuity with the previous five films in the series, all of which were directed by Michael Bay. Paramount is also developing another Transformers movie with Angel Manuel Soto directing, and an animated prequel helmed by Josh Cooley.

Transformers: Rise of the Beasts will hit theaters on June 24, 2022.
