Stunt Coordinator Breaks Down Car Chase Scene in Black Widow

After much anticipation, the Black Widow solo movie made its debut a few days ago. While the film won’t go down as the biggest in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it does feature some remarkable action scenes. Most notably, one where Taskmaster and an army of Black Widows chase Scarlett Johansson’s Natasha and Florence Pugh’s Yelena. Black Widow stunt coordinator Rob Inch revealed that inspiration for the car chase scene came from the city of Budapest, which allowed them to turn a brief description from the script into what fans saw.

“It starts off as a foot chase on a roof, it gets down onto the ground and goes into a motorbike chase, where we introduce this badass military truck vehicle,” he said while talking with EW. “It was like ballet versus rugby — the ballet was the girls weaving and squeezing in and out of traffic on the motorbike. And then we had the brute force of a big truck just bulldozing everything out of the way.”

That scene also involved the two protagonists riding a motorcycle. Inch said that he took inspiration from The Great Escape , which has “the best jump in any motorbike chase” for this part. He upped the ante by having it feature two people on the bike.

“We liked the idea of the two sisters having to get close together pretty quickly after having a fight. The mode of transport that you have to hold onto somebody and put your arms around them and all of a sudden be bonded — it’s a motorbike.”

Black Widow is now playing in theaters and streaming on Disney+ Premier Access.
