During a SnyderCon 2023 Man of Steel Q&A, director Zack Snyder gave his perspective on the 2013 movie’s antagonist, Zod.
What did Zack Snyder say about Zod in Man of Steel?
After a fan asked Snyder about how he created various aspects of Krypton, the filmmaker explained that Zod — played by Michael Shannon — is interesting due to his unique perspective.
“I think the thing about Zod that’s really interesting is you could argue whether or not he’s right,” Snyder stated. “That’s what makes him interesting — from his point of view, he’s not. He also thinks they’re crazy, that the politicians don’t get it. But is his method the correct method?”
Zack Snyder directed three movies in the previous DC Extended Universe: Man of Steel, 2016’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and 2017’s Justice League, which had Joss Whedon take over as director during post-production. Snyder would later get another shot at his version of Justice League, releasing Zack Snyder’s Justice League in 2021.
Man of Steel served as the beginning of the DC Extended Universe and introduced Henry Cavill‘s DCEU Superman. The movie starred Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Michael Shannon, Kevin Costner, and more. Shannon will be reprising his role in The Flash.
