James Gunn Bet

James Gunn Makes Bet With Fan Over Superman: Legacy

Superman: Legacy director James Gunn has made a bet with a fan involving the future of the new DC Universe.

What was James Gunn’s Superman: Legacy bet?

In a Twitter conversation, a user called @AppsConnor told Gunn that if Batman and Superman sit across from each other at a diner while chatting in a movie, they would eat one shoe. If the superheroes discuss how they could solve one another’s problems, the user would eat another shoe. Finally, if Batman interrupts Superman by saying “because I’m Batman,” they will eat a third shoe.

James Gunn replied to the user’s conditions, saying, “Ok. Good to know. Back to you in a few (years).”

The same person then replied and said they’d get a tattoo of a shoe with a bite taken out of it if Gunn made a movie in the DC Universe featuree a scene of Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman all eating fast food together on a rooftop.

This time, Gunn replied that he doesn’t really care about a tattoo, but that he does “want to see someone eat a shoe.” Given this is James Gunn, this could all be fun banter, but the idea of the filmmaker including such a scene to see a fan eat a shoe is entertaining regardless.

“Superman: Legacy tells the story of Superman’s journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent of Smallville, Kansas,” reads the movie’s official synopsis. “He is the embodiment of truth, justice and the American way, guided by human kindness in a world that sees kindness as old-fashioned.”

Superman: Legacy is set to premiere in theaters on July 11, 2025.
