Euphoria’s Jacob Elordi says he passed on a chance to audition for the role of Superman because it was “too dark” for him.
Speaking with GQ, Elordi, who plays Nate Jacobs in HBO’s Euphoria and recently starred as Elvis Presley in Sofia Coppola’s Priscilla, revealed he turned down an opportunity to audition to play DC’s Man of Steel.
“They asked me to read for Superman,” he said. “That was immediately, ‘No, thank you.’ That’s too much. That’s too dark for me.”
When asked if he’d ever want to play any role in a superhero film — be it for Marvel, DC, or any other studio — Elordi said, “Not particularly, no. I’ve always been told to say a rounded answer or my agent will get mad at me. ‘Anything can happen!’ And obviously anything can happen, but at this stage in my life, I don’t see myself having any interest in that. I like to make what I would watch, and I get very restless watching those movies.”
Superman is moving forward without Jacob Elordi
James Gunn is directing a new movie starring the Man of Tomorrow, Superman: Legacy, which is scheduled to release in United States theaters on July 11, 2025. David Corenswet will play Clark Kent/Superman in the movie, while The Marvelous Ms. Maisel’s Rachel Brosnahan has been cast as Lois Lane.
With the Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) strike now over, production on Superman: Legacy is now expected to begin in March 2024.
On November 11, 2023, Gunn tweeted, “Thanks to the efforts of our talented crew, who never lost faith during the longest strikes in Hollywood history, and who never let their foot off the pedal, continuing to barrel forward, creating the most amazing character and set designs I’ve seen in my entire career, #SupermanLegacy will be making the originally planned release date of July 11, 2025.”
