Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom star Jason Momoa recent went in depth about his writing credit in the upcoming DC Extended Universe sequel.
Per ComicBook.com, Momoa made a special appearance at the CCXP convention in São Paulo, Brazil for a special presentation for his last Aquaman installment. The actor reflected on his process of generating script ideas alongside director James Wan for the sequel shortly after the billion-dollar success of the 2018 movie.
“There’s a lot of things you want to do and fulfill as an actor, and also for the fans, and for myself. When we finished the first one, I had a lot of ideas. And I started to put them down, just put down in my heart and my love for the character. Then we got a meeting with DC and Warners and James [Wan],” Momoa said.
He continued: “I’ve never done that before. I pitched my own idea but I’m like, ‘They can’t fault me on this, because I love this character and I’ve played it for so long. Here’s some ideas that I would like to do.’ And they responded really well to it, and then James liked a lot of ideas, and then they took that and ran with it and took it to another level.”
Working with Wan as well as screenwriters Thomas Pa’a Sibbett and David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick, Momoa helped to continue Arthur Curry’s story by having the half-merman, half-human superhero balance his responsibilities as the King of Atlantis and being a new father to his infant son. As Momoa’s likely last appearance as Aquaman, the actor reflected on the character’s journey from his first appearance in Zack Snyder‘s Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice up until now.
“The cool thing about it is, it’s not just like I’m hired to do a job. I love this character,” Momoa said. “He was made fun of so much. And to bring this character back, and go from Zack’s world into James’ world — it’s been me for so long. I’m really proud for everyone to see this movie because we all really shine.”

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom’s official synopsis reads: “Having failed to defeat Aquaman the first time, Black Manta, still driven by the need to avenge his father’s death, will stop at nothing to take Aquaman down once and for all. Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom arrives in theaters on December 20.
