David Corenswet’s Superman suit won’t be revealed until after the movie starts filming in March 2024.
On Threads, Superman: Legacy director and writer James Gunn was asked what the likelihood was that fans would see Corenswet’s suit before the movie officially goes into production in March 2024.
Gunn answered, “Zero-point-zero.”
Responding to another comment, Gunn confirmed that the movie doesn’t begin shooting “for over two months.” When another commenter said we “already know what Superman’s suit looks like,” Gunn added more fuel to the debate around whether or not it should come with trunks by saying, “Do you? Are there trunks or no trunks?”
Gunn has weighed on in the trunks debate before. He posted on Threads earlier this month, “You wouldn’t believe the amount of pleading and upset I get based around trunks or no trunks. To me, not the most important aspect of Superman or his story. But so many strong feelings!”
He added, “This might be an extreme point of view. The costume has changed in many, many ways throughout the years. They are all (or mostly all) valid versions of Superman, with or without trunks, with or without yellow S on cape. with or without black around the S, with or without mullet, and on and on and on.”
What do we know about Superman: Legacy?
Superman: Legacy will mark the first official film in Gunn and Safran’s new DCU, though an animated Creature Commandos series will arrive prior to that in 2024. Corenswet is playing the Man of Steel, while The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel’s Rachel Brosnahan has been cast as Lois Lane.
The film will additionally star Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, María Gabriela de Faría as The Engineer, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho, and Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner. While it’s unclear whether or not he’ll show up in Superman: Legacy, Sean Gunn has also been cast as Maxwell Lord in Gunn and Safran’s DCU.
Superman: Legacy releases in United States theaters on July 11, 2025.
