The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel star Rachel Brosnahan has teased what audiences can expect from her take on Lois Lane in James Gunn‘s Superman: Legacy.
Brosnahan will star in the DC Universe film opposite David Corenswet, who portrays Clark Kent/Superman himself. “I’ve really enjoyed the collaboration with James Gunn so far. It’s been– every single person involved in this production is such a perfect nerd for Superman,” Brosnahan told Entertainment Tonight on the red carpet of the Critics Choice Awards.
“We all grew up watching the movies,” she continued. “Some of us grew up reading the comics, you know. And so, I feel like it’s being made with so much love. And it– I think this Superman’ll have a sense of humor … Without getting … I’m rolling through my brain all the things I’m not allowed to say. But we’re excited to both put our own spin on things, but also honor this material that we all love so much.”
When asked to describe her version of Lois with three adjectives, Brosnahan replied, “‘Feisty,’ dare I say … ‘marvelous,’ and ‘fiercely intelligent.'”
Superman: Legacy enters production this year
Written and directed by Gunn, Superman: Legacy will be the first cinematic entry in the rebooted DCU spearheaded by Gunn and DC Studios co-head Peter Safran. In addition to Corenswet and Brosnahan as Superman and Lois Lane, respectively, the film stars Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Nathan Fillion as Green Lantern (Guy Gardner), Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho, María Gabriela de Faría as The Engineer, and Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher.
Gunn’s brother, actor Sean Gunn, has also been tapped to portray Maxwell Lord in the DCU. However, it’s currently unclear if the Wonder Woman villain will physically appear in Superman: Legacy.
Production on Superman: Legacy kicks off this March. The film opens in theaters on July 11, 2025.
