Matthew Vaughn’s Kick-Ass Reboot Will Be Part of a New Trilogy of Movies

Matthew Vaughn’s Kick-Ass reboot will be the third film in a new trilogy.

Speaking with Collider, Vaughn explained that his new Kick-Ass movie, which will seemingly serve as a reboot of the franchise (albeit in a “very, very meta-universe”), will actually be the third film in a new trilogy of movies.

The first movie in the upcoming trilogy will be called School Fight (not to be confused with 2017’s Fist Fight), which is directed by Damien Walters and produced by Vaughn. According to Collider, School Fight has already been filmed and is complete, while the second movie in the trilogy — which Vaughn referred to as “Vram” — is currently in production.

“The trilogy will be School Fight, this movie — let’s call it Vram for the time being — and then [the] Kick-Ass [reboot], and they’re all connected,” Vaughn said.

What is Matthew Vaughn’s Kick-Ass reboot?

Vaughn directed the first film in the Kick-Ass franchise, which was released in 2010 and starred Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Mark Strong, Chloë Grace Moretz, and Nicholas Cage. A sequel, which was directed by Jeff Wadlow and produced by Vaughn, followed in 2013.

In October 2023, Vaugh told Entertainment Weekly that a Kick-Ass reboot was in the works. He said at the time, “Kick-Ass changed people’s perception of what a superhero film is. We’re doing it again. None of the other characters from the other Kick-Ass are in it, though we’d like to have them back after the reboot. I can’t really talk about it, but it’s fun!”

While further details regarding School Fight and Vram remain under wraps at this time, Vaughn said of the new Kick-Ass movie, “We’re halfway through it. There’s a very, very dare I say it… and it’s gonna be a cliche coming out of this head of mine. It is a very, very meta-universe. It is what, you know, Kick-Ass was reinventing and creating an R-rated superhero and no one was really doing it. This is taking that whole concept to a worthy…not even a sequel because I think it’s just a whole new way of doing Kick-Ass, which couldn’t be more Kick-Ass.”

Vaughn also said that the new trilogy will likely launch after Vram is finished filming, meaning fans may get to see School Fight before the next Kick-Ass movie goes into production.
