Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom star Jason Momoa reveals his rock star persona as the King of Atlantis, which was inspired by the legendary Guns N’ Roses guitarist Slash.
“I built Aquaman a little bit off of Slash. Look at the first Justice League,” Momoa said during his guest appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live. “I’m like, ‘That’s Slash.’ I mean, how do you dress up like you’re playing Aquaman? You’re not going to put him in a polo and some khakis. He was just rocking. The way that Zack [Snyder] designed him, wanted him to be was that he was rock ‘n’ roll. He punched Superman in the face and kissed Wonder Woman. He didn’t care.”
Momoa continued by professing his love for the ’80s rock icon and how he reacted when got to meet him on his Max series On the Roam. “Slash was so important in my life. I have to interview him for the first time, and I’ve never done an interview,” Momoa said. “Hats off because I was so nervous. And I’m also geeking out!… I can’t talk right, and I’m so nervous.”
Jason Momoa’s future in the DCU
From his cameo in Zack Snyder‘s Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice to his hit solo movie under James Wan‘s direction, Momoa became an international superstar as Aquaman. As Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom marks the end of the DCEU, rumors suggest the actor could be recast as the alien bounty hunter Lobo in James Gunn and Peter Safran‘s new DCU. While Momoa has expressed high interest in bringing Lobo to the screen, his love for Aquaman will never go away.
“The cool thing about it is, it’s not just like I’m hired to do a job. I love this character,” Momoa said to ComicBook. “He was made fun of so much. And to bring this character back and go from Zack’s world into James’ world — it’s been me for so long. I’m really proud for everyone to see this movie because we all really shine.”
Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is now playing in theaters. The DC sequel is now available on Digital, followed by a 4K UHD, Blu-ray, and DVD release on March 12.
