James Gunn Reveals if Superman: Legacy Release Date was Affected by Strikes

James Gunn: Superman: Legacy Has ‘Thousands’ of Storyboards

James Gunn recently offered up a behind-the-scenes look into his upcoming Superman: Legacy film, revealing that he actually had the storyboards for the feature done a long time ago.

In a recent series of responses to fans on Threads, Gunn said that he actually had the storyboards for Legacy done “a long time ago.” Gunn said that he usually wants to get storyboards done before filming begins to help plan everything out and allow for changes during the actual production.

Gunn also noted that, while he hasn’t exactly counted how many there are, he’d note that there are probably “thousands” of storyboards for the film. The director also said that, although he does have them, he doesn’t stick to storyboards as strictly as he used to, and is “a lot looser now” if something pops up on set.

Who will be in Superman: Legacy?

The titular role in Superman: Legacy is being played by David Corenswet (Pearl, The Politician), while Lois Lane will be played by The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel star Rachel Brosnahan. They’re joined by Nicholas Hoult, Skyler Gisondo, María Gabriela De Faría, Sara Sampaio, Isabela Merced, Nathan Fillion, Edi Gathegi, Anthony Carrigan, and more. The film is set to release on July 11, 2025.

The DC Universe’s first phase, called Chapter One: Gods and Monsters, will feature a multitude of different movies and television shows. A few of the announced projects include a Batman and Robin-focused movie called The Brave and the Bold, a Supergirl movie titled Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, a Swamp Thing film, and multiple TV shows.
