Alex Proyas, director of 1993’s The Crow, took shots at the first images of Bill Skarsgård in the upcoming reboot.
On Facebook, Proyas shared an image of Skarsgård as Eric Draven at a campfire opposite FKA Twigs’ Shelly Webster where the original Crow director mocked Skarsgård’s appearance. “Eric Draven’s having a bad hair day. Next reboot thanks,” Proyas said.
In the comments section of the post, Proyas continued to poke fun at Skarsgård and the reboot as a whole. Proyas’ comments ranged from, “I guess he’s supposed to be a bad mofo with all those tats and werewolves and skulls on his jacket,” to, “Well at least the stills gave me a good laugh. I thought they were going to take a dump on Brandon Lee’s legacy for a moment.”
The history of The Crow
Released in 1994, Proyas’ The Crow was an adaptation of the Caliber Comics supernatural superhero created by James O’Barr and starring the late Brandon Lee. The movie follows a rock musician left for dead alongside his fiancée and gets resurrected to seek revenge against the killers. The Crow had an unfortunate production history as star Lee was fatally wounded by a prop weapon and had his remaining scenes finished through the use of early CGI as well as stunt doubles. Praised by critics for Lee’s final performance, The Crow earned $94 million worldwide on a $23 million budget.
After years of numerous cast and director changes, The Crow reboot finally made it to production with star Skarsgård in the title role. Directed by Rupert Sanders with a screenplay by Zach Baylin and Will Schneider, The Crow co-stars FKA Twigs, Danny Huston, Isabella Wei, Laura Birn, Sami Bouajila, and Jordan Bolger.
The Crow is scheduled for release in theaters on June 7.
