The Batman Part II Gets Exciting Update from Writer

A co-writer for The Batman Part II has given an exciting update on the upcoming film, and praised Matt Reeves for his work on the project and movies overall.

Speaking to Screen Rant in a recent interview, Mattson Tomlin — who was an uncredited writer on the original The Batman and is a co-writer of the sequel — teased that the upcoming sequel to 2022’s The Batman is set to begin filming next year, and that the upcoming film already has some high expectations from those behind the scenes.

“It’s shooting next year. We’re gearing up, and I will say that the bar just couldn’t be higher,” Tomlin said.

Tomlin went on to praise director Matt Reeves, who he says is a “true artist” that is making something special, and he’s grateful to be along for the ride.

“It’s the sequel to the first one,” he continued. “But also, Matt [Reeves] is like no other. In the five years now that I’ve been working with him as closely as I have, I’ve tried to absorb as much as humanly possible from him, and I’m so grateful for the time that I get to spend with him, because he is a true artist who is operating in a world where sometimes art doesn’t get to flourish, and he’s trying to make something that really matters. So to be able to just be on the ride and be part of that process, it’s pretty unbelievable, pretty tremendous. I’m psyched for the movie.”

What do we know about The Batman Part II?

Little is known about the plot of The Batman Part II so far, though Robert Pattinson is set to return as the titular Dark Knight. The first film did tease the Joker and leave the Riddler alive at Arkham, so one or both of these iconic antagonists could make a return. Just last month, DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn debunked a rumor about who the sequel’s villains could be, as well as the possible introduction of Dick Grayson/Robin.

The first film, The Batman, stars Pattinson as Bruce Wayne/Batman, Zoë Kravitz as Selina Kyle/Catwoman, Paul Dano as The Riddler, Jeffrey Wright as GCPD’s James Gordon, John Turturro as Carmine Falcone, Peter Sarsgaard as Gotham D.A. Gil Colson, Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, and Colin Ferrell as Oswald Cobblepot/Penguin.
