Warning: Potential spoilers for Captain America: The Winter Soldier.
One of the many new characters introduced in Marvel’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier was Frank Grillo as Brock Rumlow aka Crossbones, a character that has been a long-running villain in the comics. Though he started the film as an ally, like so many other S.H.I.E.L.D. agents, Rumlow wasn’t who he seemed. Having taken quite a beating by the end of the film, where does that leave him for the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe?
Speaking with Collider, Grillo was asked about a potential return to the series with Captain America 3, currently scheduled to open the same day as Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.
“I’m cautiously optimistic that you will see me in the not too distant future in the next installment of Captain America,” Grillo said.
He then echoed something he had previously said about “The Winter Soldier” in that the film was an origin tale for the character, before revealing that discussions have been had about where Rumlow goes next.
“We’ve had multiple discussions about what comes after that, that thing,” Grillo said. “So, you know, it’s obvious Rumlow is covered in rubble and burned to crisp at the end, but you see he’s still there. They don’t do that for no reason.”
When prompted that he would need a costume for his return, Grillo replied: “He needs a costume! Coincidentally it could be a mask with a crossbones on it.”
Set to be directed once again by Anthony and Joe Russo, Captain America 3 is slated for release on May 6, 2016. Captain America: The Winter Soldier in the meantime will debut on DVD and Blu-ray on September 9.
