Jesse Eisenberg Would Love to Play Lex Luthor ‘Forever’

Though his reception was decidedly mixed, Jesse Eisenberg still wants to play Lex Luthor. Actually, if it was up to the Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice star, he would play the billionaire ‘forever.’ Even though his performance as Superman’s nemesis didn’t meet the taste of every comic book fan, in a recent interview with The National Eisenberg revealed that he would gladly portray him again on the big screen.

“Oh yeah, are you kidding? I would love it,” Eisenberg said. “That’s the coolest role to play. I don’t even know if they know what they’re doing with the movies, but for me it was exhilarating. I would love to play that role forever. I have no knowledge about what they’re doing with it.”

The actor revealed his particular take on the role, explaining that creative liberty is what attracts him to Lex Luthor.

“You can do anything [with the character] and it’s right,” he added. “You can be as funny, as dramatic, as crazed, as sensitive [as you want]. The character is open to any interpretation. It’s not a prescribed, acceptable role that the audience feels they have to like or see themselves in, so that’s the kind of freeing role that actors like. Will they let me do it again? I have no idea. But that’s the kind of thing I love.”

Eisenberg also played Lex in 2017’s Justice League post-credits scene that featured Joe Manganiello’s Deathstroke. At the moment, it’s highly unlikely that he will reprise his role soon though. Eisenberg himself is aware of this, and recently expressed uncertainty regards his future as Lex Luthor in the DC Extended Universe. The actor’s best chance is if they ever release the much talked Snyder Cut of JL. Otherwise, he can always hope that they will call him into a future Crisis on the CW.
