Amazon’s adaptation of Larry Niven’s classic sci-fi novel, Ringworld, has taken a major step forward. While speaking with Collider, screenwriter Akiva Goldsman revealed that director Alan Taylor has joined the project.
“Alan Taylor is attached to direct, and hopefully that will turn into an actual set of moving pictures, but God knows,” said Goldsman. “I think that these big, comprehensive universes, there are very few of them still available, and I certainly think Known Space is one of them, for those of us who were Larry Niven fans in our high school days. Niven’s world, his universe, dare I say, is incredibly complex and nuanced, and Ringworld has always been this entry point. Better minds than mine have tried to crack it, but hopefully we’ll do it this time.”
Taylor directed several episodes of Game of Thrones, as well as Thor: The Dark World and Terminator: Genisys. He also made a name for himself on several prestigious TV series by helming episods of The Sopranos, Deadwood, Carnivale, Rome, and Boardwalk Empire.

Ringworld takes place in the far future, as a 200-year old man named Louis Gridley Wu goes on an adventure with a young woman, Teela Brown, and two aliens: Nessus and Speaker. Together, they travel to Ringworld, an artificially created world in deep space. The novels led to sequel and prequel stories within Niven’s Known Space universe.
