Tom Holland confirms his commitment to more Spider-Man appearances while revealing his creative involvement in Sony and Marvel Studios‘ Spider-Man 4.
“The simple answer is that I’ll always want to do Spider-Man films. I owe my life and career to Spider-Man. So the simple answer is yes. I’ll always want to do more,” Holland said to Deadline during the Sands International Film Festival premiere of his short film Last Call.
“We have the best in the business working toward whatever the story might be. But until we’ve cracked it, we have a legacy to protect. The third movie was so special in so many ways that we need to make sure we do the right thing. This is the first time in this process that I’ve been part of the creative so early. It’s just a process where I’m watching and learning. It’s just a really fun stage for me. Like I said, everyone wants it to happen. But we want to make sure we’re not overdoing the same things.”
Holland’s optimistic comments contrast with statements he made to GQ in 2021 before the release of Spider-Man: No Way Home. Having completed his original Marvel contract for six appearances, the actor confessed he had no desire to continue as Spider-Man beyond the age of 30. “Maybe it is time for me to move on. Maybe what’s best for Spider-Man is that they do a Miles Morales film. I have to take Peter Parker into account as well because he is an important part of my life,” Holland said.
What will be Peter Parker’s next story in Spider-Man 4?
The previous installment, Spider-Man: No Way Home, saw Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) erase the world’s memories of Peter Parker after the Wall Crawler and his variants (Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield) contained the supervillains from the multiverse. As the sequel remains in active development, producer Amy Pascal teased the direction of the next Spider-Man movie.
“At the end of the movie we just made, you see Spider-Man make a momentous decision, one that you’ve never seen him make before,” Pascal said during No Way Home’s promotion in 2021. “It’s a sacrifice. And that gives us a lot to work with for the next film.”
Sony and Marvel Studios’ Spider-Man 4 does not have a release date. Spider-Man: Homecoming and its sequels are now streaming on Disney+.
