With Deadpool & Wolverine playing in theaters for three weeks, Marvel’s concept artists have begun to reveal the concept art pieces they worked on during the initial stages of the film. A recent artwork revealed the cut cameos of Ben Affleck’s Daredevil and Nicolas Cage’s Ghost Rider. Now, another artist has revealed alternate designs of Henry Cavill’s Wolverine cameo, aka The Cavillrine in the third Deadpool movie.
New Henry Cavill art pieces show alternate Cavillrine cameo ideas
In Deadpool & Wolverine, Henry Cavill’s Cavillrine variant matched Hugh Jackman’s vibe from his appearances in the early-late 2000s. Deadpool visited his universe as he was fixing his motorcycle smoking a cigar in true Wolverine fashion. Moreover, Cavill sported the iconic Wolverine mutton chops, white west, and jeans look.
Cavill’s Wolverine persona felt extremely similar to Hugh Jackman’s look in X-Men: The Last Stand, X-Men Origins: Wolverine, and many other Fox Marvel films. However, artist Wesley Burt came up with multiple other concept art designs for the Cavillrine in Deadpool & Wolverine. Now, he has shared them on X (previously Twitter):
Besides the look that Henry Cavill ultimately donned in Deadpool & Wolverine, he could have worn a plaid shirt similar to Hugh Jackman’s first solo outing as the character in 2009. But Marvel ultimately chose the most recognizable Wolverine appearance for him, which also did justice to his chiseled physique.
After making his MCU debut, Cavill shared his mustache-less Wolverine look on Instagram, firing direct shots at DC for what he went through during the Justice League reshoots. Furthermore, director Shawn Levy told Variety that the former Superman actor took no time in accepting the Marvel role.
Levy said:
“I knew it was undeniable as soon as Ryan came up with that term,” referring to Reynolds naming the Henry Cavill Wolverine variant as “Cavillrine.” The director continued and revealed Cavill’s reply when they reached out to him. Levy stated:
“He said ‘yes’ right away because he knew it would be subversive and playful. It was also with a lot of affection for him and his body of work, and playing with his legacy as a DC hero now that he’s appearing as a variant of a Marvel hero.”
Whether Henry Cavill gets to reprise this role in future MCU movies remains to be seen.
