Things aren’t looking too simple for the Doctor’s next adventure. The BBC has premiered a new trailer for Doctor Who Season 12, which is set to arrive early next year. In it, the Thirteenth Doctor, as portrayed by Jodie Whitaker, faces what she calls a “crisis.” Or, rather, a “big, serious crisis.”
Though there aren’t many details, the new trailer does feature a glimpse of some new alien races. There’s also a lot of action, including a car chase and explosions. Additionally, it features a few new characters, including one portrayed by veteran actor Stephen Fry.
But whatever it is, it appears to be a somewhat personal turn for the Doctor. At one point, she proclaims that an unseen force is “coming for me.” However, her companion insist that they will face it alongside her.

The latest season premiere of Doctor Who was announced last month. During that time, the BBC confirmed that there wouldn’t be a holiday special this year. Instead, there’s going to be an early season premiere for 2020. Judging by the trailer, it makes sense to start the year with a bang.
Doctor Who season 12 will begin on January 1, 2020, with the second part of that episode arriving on January 4. Following that, the remaining episodes will follow in late 2020, airing on BBC and BBC America.
