This summer, HBO is welcoming viewers to enter the terrifying world of Lovecraft Country. Based on the novel of the same name by Matt Ruff, Lovecraft Country rolls back the clock to the ’50s, as a young man named Atticus Black discovers a cryptic message from his father. However, that message will lure Atticus; his uncle, George; and their friend, Letitia; into a journey that will force them to face the darker side of the nation.
In a newly released teaser trailer, Lovecraft Country offers a glimpse of Jim Crow era racism that casually threatens Atticus and his friends. Additionally, the trailer shows off some otherworldly creatures that are all-too eager to devour anyone in their way. Magic and elder gods may be real in this world. It’s like an H.P. Lovecraft horror novel come to life.

Vance also recurs on the series as George Black.
Misha Green is the showrunner of Lovecraft Country, and also the executive producer alongside Jordan Peele and J.J. Abrams. HBO will premiere the first episode of Lovecraft Country in August.
