Diego Luna Says Disney+’s Cassian Andor Series Has Started Filming

Disney+’s long-awaited Rogue One prequel centering on Cassian Andor has hit a few bumps in the road over the course of its development. However, it looks like production is officially a go. During an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live last night, Diego Luna revealed that he’s begun work on the series.

Luna was chatting with Kimmel from London, where the series is currently filming. At the top of the interview, the host asked Luna what he was working on, to which he slyly answered that it was a “tiny little thing” and “a short film with some friends.” But when Kimmel guessed that it was “for Disney+ with Lucasfilm involved,” Luna confirmed,”They’re my friends.”

“It’s basically everything you have to know to understand Rogue One,” added Luna. “The story of the character before. I can spoil the ending I guess!”

Obviously, Cassian Andor met his demise at the end of Rogue One. But Luna definitely sounds excited to spend more time with the character, especially if it means exploring his motivations for joining the Rebel Alliance.

“It’s nice to go into a story you already know the ending,” Luna said. “Now you can take the nuances and the layers. I think it’s fun to do something that isn’t just about getting to the end. It’s about delaying that.”

Cassian Andor will reunite Luna with Alan Tudyk, who is reprising his Rogue One role as K-2SO on the series. They’ll lead a cast that currently includes Adria Arjona, Denise Gough, Stellan Skarsgård, and Kyle Soller. Genevieve O’Reilly is also coming back to play Mon Mothma. Black Mirror’s Toby Haynes will direct the first three episodes.

Disney+ has yet to announce an official title or a premiere date for the Cassian Andor series.
