In just a few hours, Team Peacemaker will put Project Butterfly to bed. But don’t expect this to be their last mission together. James Gunn has confirmed that HBO Max has renewed Peacemaker for another season. Check out Gunn’s announcement below. Renews peacemaker.
That’s right, #Peacemaker is coming back for Season Two. Thanks to Peter Safran, @JohnCena, our incredible cast & crew, our wildly supportive & lovely friends at @HBOMax – and mostly all of you for watching! @DCpeacemaker pic.twitter.com/wZSZBivrDQ

The news comes merely an hour after HBO Max content chief Casey Bloys revealed during a TCA presentation (via Deadline) that he was “feeling good” about a season 2 pickup. Gunn previously shared last month that a renewal was likely thanks to the first season’s impressive viewing numbers. Aside from Peacemaker’s next adventure, Gunn is also developing another TV series spinning out of the events of last year’s The Suicide Squad. Unfortunately, the headlining character(s) is still a mystery.

John Cena will once again don his helmet as the titular beacon of freedom. However, it’s too early to say whether supporting cast members like Jennifer Holland, Steve Agee, Freddie Stroma, and Danielle Brooks will return for more episodes, assuming they even survive tonight’s season finale. But one thing we can definitely expect is a brand new opening credits sequence, complete with new characters and a new dance routine.
The eighth and final episode of Peacemaker’s first season hits HBO Max tonight at midnight.
