The latest Obi-Wan Kenobi trailer wasn’t the only big reveal to emerge from today’s Star Wars Day announcements. Lucasfilm is also gearing up to release a new documentary series that explores the studio’s iconic visual effects house, Industrial Light & Magic. The series, Light & Magic, is scheduled to premiere on Disney+ this summer.
Light & Magic is directed by Empire Strikes Back and Raiders of the Lost Ark screenwriter Lawrence Kasdan. Over the course of six episodes, Kasdan will take a closer look at how ILM has re-shaped the VFX industry during the last 47 years. ILM began with George Lucas during production on the first Star Wars movie, and its innovative techniques include The Mandalorian‘s StageCraft technology. Several members of ILM will also share their own stories of how they became involved with the company. Ron Howard (Solo: A Star Wars Story) is executive producing the new series with Brian Grazer.

Additionally, Lucasfilm will offer a sneak peak at Light & Magic at Star Wars Celebration, in Anaheim, California on May 27. The studio is also hosting a panel discussion featuring several industry luminaries, including Kasdan and Howard. VFX designers Dennis Muren, Phil Tippett, Joe Johnston, and Rose Duignan will also appear on the panel with Lucasfilm executive vice president and general manager Lynwen Brennan.
Light & Magic hits on Disney+ on July 27.
