DC Universe Online is Getting a Dark Nights: Metal Expansion
To coincide with the game’s launch on Nintendo Switch later this summer, DC Universe Online is about to get dark.
Daybreak Games has announced a new Dark Nights: Metal update for its online MMO game. Metal Part I will make its debut this September, while Metal Part II will follow up a few months later in December.
Dark Nights: Metal is based on Scott Snyder and artist Greg Capullo’s event comic from June 2017. It focused on a dark multiverse that threatened to overwhelm the Earth. It also introduced League of Dark Knights – a team of evil Batmen.
Snyder and Capullo are also contributing to the expansion. It’s expected to introduce a number of new threats into the online MMO universe, including Barbatos. Fans are also likely to see The Batman Who Laughs and other League of Dark Knights members. The first promo art for the game can be seen below, which promises a dark world for players to explore.
Here’s the official synopsis for the expansion, provided by the publisher:
“In Metal Part I, Batman has breached the barrier between our world and the Dark Multiverse, and then disappeared. In through the breach storm the Dark Nights, twisted versions of Batman hell-bent on revenge. In Metal Part II, the saga of the Dark Nights, the Dark Multiverse, and Metal will come to an explosive conclusion.”

DC Universe Online has grown a steady audience over the years since its official launch back in 2011 for PC. Daybreak has launched the game on new platforms like PlayStation 4 and Xbox One; and that support will continue in a few days on the Nintendo Switch, with its launch planned on August 6. The expansions will come to that platform as well. Its debut trailer is below.
