Yes, actor David Thewlis is going to join the Avatar franchise, but fans will have to wait before they see him among the blue Na’ vi. The news that the former professor Remus Lupin in the Harry Potter franchise will take a spaceship to Pandora is already out there. But it seems that the information about the actor debuting in Avatar 2 wasn’t accurate, and Thewlis felt the need to clarify the situation in a recent interview with Collider.
“I know that a magazine in Britain has got me in Avatar 2, but I’m not in Avatar 2. I’m going to be in Avatar 3, which was shot at the same time as Avatar 2, and the plan is that I will be in Avatar 4 and 5, as well. I just wanted to clear that up because somebody got that wrong recently.”

The Avatar franchise uses a massive reliance on CGI and motion capture. For Thewlis, this will be the first time he had to do such a significant amount of work wearing a velcro suit in front of the green screen.
“People told me, ”Oh, you’re going to love it. It’s’s like doing theater.” It’s not like doing theater,” he stated. “It’s not like doing film, either. Motion capture is bizarre. You’re in a velcro suit all day, with a camera right in your face, all day, every day. If you sit down for too long, you have to be re-calibrated. And if you touch anyone else, you get stuck to them ’cause you’re all made of velcro. It’s’s fairly uncomfortable. You don’t know what’s going on or where you are, and it’s baffling.”
Yet the actor seemed to have accepted the challenge, and he confessed that he never felt bored. Aside from his part as the Hogwarts professor, Thewlis has always been comfortable in CG-heavy movies, more recently playing supervillain Ares in Wonder Woman. Long-time fans of the fantasy genre will remember him for his role as King Einon in 1996’s Dragonheart.
