Superman: Legacy writer-director James Gunn says the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes did not impact the DC Universe film’s release date.
In a post to X (formerly Twitter), Gunn — the co-CEO of DC Studios — confirmed that Superman: Legacy is still on track to hit theaters on July 11, 2025 as originally planned. Gunn praised the efforts of the film’s “talented crew,” who “never lost faith during the longest strikes in Hollywood history, and who never let their foot off the pedal, continuing to barrel forward, creating the most amazing character and set designs I’ve seen in my entire career.”
What is Superman: Legacy about?
“Superman: Legacy tells the story of Superman’s journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent of Smallville, Kansas,” the movie’s official synopsis reads. “He is the embodiment of truth, justice and the American way, guided by human kindness in a world that sees kindness as old-fashioned.”
David Corenswet (Pearl, The Politician) takes over the role of the Man of Steel in Superman: Legacy. Rachel Brosnahan (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel) stars opposite Corenswet as Lois Lane. Additional cast members include Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner/Green Lantern, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, and Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho.
Superman: Legacy will be the first big-screen entry in Gunn and Peter Safran‘s new DCU. The rebooted cinematic universe kicks off next year with the debut of the Creature Commandos animated series on Max.
