Superman: Legacy star Isabela Merced says she has tried on the helmet she will wear as Hawkgirl in the upcoming DC Universe film.
While speaking with Variety on the red carpet of Sony’s new Marvel film Madame Web, Merced revealed that production on DC Studios‘ Superman: Legacy has “already kind of started” ahead of its proper beginning next month. “I did my fittings, and I tried on the Hawkgirl helmet,” she said. “The paint job is impeccable … and I hope they finalized it. I don’t know. You never know with James Gunn. He could always change his mind last minute, and we would respect him for that.” Merced added that once cameras start rolling on Superman: Legacy in March, she’ll be going back and forth between that production and HBO’s The Last of Us Season 2.
On the subject of her wardrobe, Merced also revealed how wearing a superhero suit for Madame Web informed her costume preferences in Superman: Legacy. “You know what, I need a little extra space in the … butt area,” the actor said. “Otherwise, you’re gonna get wedgies all day … No wedgies, please.”
Superman: Legacy flies into theaters next year
Written and directed by Gunn — the co-head of DC Studios — Superman: Legacy stars David Corenswet as the Man of Steel opposite Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane. Merced — who will play fellow DC mainstay Hawkgirl — is part of a supporting cast that also includes Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, Nathan Fillion as Green Lantern (Guy Gardner), Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho, María Gabriela de Faría as the Engineer, Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, and Milly Alcock as as Supergirl.
Superman: Legacy opens in theaters on July 11, 2025 as the first live-action film in Gunn and Peter Safran’s rebooted DCU. In the meantime, Merced stars as the Marvel superhero Anya Corazon/Araña in Sony’s Madame Web. That film arrives in theaters this Wednesday, February 14.
